I have only seen a re-emergence in old cars in the styling of newer ones, especially in muscle cars where they basically just replicated the old designs for new models. Now I'll address some of your other points.

Most Americans really only care about "getting from Point A to Point B". It sucks that this is how people see their lives. They don'y care where there cars were made as long as they are getting good value for their investment. However, take into consideration that foreign automakers have manufacturing plants here in America for example: Mitsubishi has a plant in Illinois, Toyota has one in Mississippi, and BMW has one in South Carolina which is soon going to be the biggest car plant in the U.S. So foreign cars often end up being more American than the American brands.

Comparing a classic USED car to a NEW modern car is an unfair comparison. Of course your not going to take out a loan for an old used car thus no financing/paying interest on it. Plus you wouldn't spend much on gas anyway. But then compare a used economy car to a classic car for the same price of $5000. Think of popular examples like a Honda civic or Toyota Camry that last forever. Now the costs of ownership, insurance rates, and some tax rates are way down.

And while yes, age and experience are mega factors in driving safety, classic cars are death traps. All that age and experience doesn't matter if you hit some black ice at night or if someone's brakes fail at an intersection. There are a lot of accidents you can't prevent because you can't see them coming and I would rather be in a car with the most advanced safety features than one that "looks cool" when my life is on the line.

And who says economy cars aren't race cars?? lol That WRX you have just happens to be the basis of a World Class rally car. EVERY manufacturer designs their cars with the most advanced styling and technology (hopefully) based off their research from racing. New ford focuses and fiestas are famous for their use in various racing formats.

YES unfortunately older cars are not made as well simply because their age has caught up with them. Sure with modification they can be almost as good as new cars in high performance or with economic driving in mind, but manufacturers keep making new cars for a reason:to improve them over the old ones.
