When you get a quote you are asked many things about yourself, job, home etc and these are all factors in determining your premium.
If you fail to tell the truth on any of these and they find out you are putting yourself open to criminal fraud charges, driving with no insurance charges, points and fines and the possibility of trying to claim on a policy they declare invalid.
Remember the insurers know all the scams you might and many more besides and will look to avoid paying out whenever they can.
There are no "Grey Areas" where you can tell a bit of the truth and expect to get away with it if found out. It is black and white, truth or lies - up to you to decide to be straight or criminal.

£2500-£3000 is about average nowadays for an insurance group1 car. Phone around the insurance companies and play them off each other but your not going to get it much cheaper.

Oh and you must have your own policy, you can't be a named driver for your own car as that is classed as fronting and is fraud. Both yourself and your mum would be prosecuted.

if your quotes are the same you have to look at the benefits for yourself. Are you a 24 hour person. Places like the Hartford do not have people available to make changes to your policy 24-hours a day like Geico and Progressive. Then see if any of them offer a full service claim center new you. All companies will have adjusters. A full service claim center will tow your car to them, get you a rental car at their location, be able to updates via email or phone several times a week.

If you like doing things online look at each companies website to see how easy it is to navigate. I now that Geico and Progressive have great websites. I do not know about the Hartford.

My daughter's car was waiting to go for scrappage and as it was not running well she just kept it off the road.
But we left the insurance running and did not cancel it until a new policy had been taken out as did not want to lose the Protected No Claims and the associated history.

We were advised that this was the best way to do it. But in the two months of looking for an alternative insurance company the prices went up considerably. The media and the press said they were really not into insuring new drivers any more.

I do.

I insured my 1L Micra with them while I was learning to drive, then when I passed my test I traded in the Micra for a 2L Mondeo.

I called them up to tell them about the change in licence and the change in car and they had no problem.

They were relatively cheap with both cars.

I havent made any claims with them, so I dont know if they will give you the runaround or anything, but I had a look around at the time and they seemed to have a descent enough reputation.

The only prob Ive found with them so far is that they can be picky about what cars they want to insure.

I was looking into getting a 4L Ford Explorer at one point and they said they wouldnt give me a quote cos they wouldnt insure a 26 year old with that size of engine.

Another time I was interested in a 1988 Escort and they said they dont insure cars over 20 years old.

My Micra was a 1997 and my Mondeo is a 1998, they were fine when I approached them with those two.
