Reputation from people you know is the best, but remember that your not paying for the parts, your paying for the persons expertise and training to do that work.

Progressive (800-776-4737) open 24/7 advertises that they will give you a quote for car insurance or refer you to another insurance company that will be cheaper. This may be worth a free call. I have had Progressive several years and they have been efficient and courteous. Their claims service was streamlined when my wife's car needed repair after someone hit it in a mall parking lot and drove away without leaving any ID. I believe their rates are relatively low. You can always get multiple quotes to check - but customer service counts too. Good luck.

I would recommend NetQuote.com. Through them AIG and Allstate were below other insrance companies I've checked with. I also called several local agents, but they were quite a bit higher.

About a week after my quote from Allstate, they sent another email with a new, lower quote. I'm happy and I'll be going with them.

Search for insurance long before you need to renew for the best rates. Be aware that you can get a new policy at any time and subsquently cancel your previous policy for a refund of the remaining amount.

Even if your term is up, you should call to cancel the policy if you aren't renewing.
