go on Parkers.co.uk and look up insurance groups. anything in group 3 should be 'cheap', renault clio 1.2, peugeot 1061.1- (my first car at 18 and cost me £1300 to insure) and so on (little french hatchbacks are the cheapest). your postcode makes a huge difference as it depends on the area you live in- some areas are a bigger risk for insurers than others. age of the car matters too, try and go for 8+ years old if you want cheap insurance.

also depends whether you keep it in garage, road etc at night and how many miles you do a year, tell them about 6000 or less. also try adding your mum or dad (or any experienced driver) to your policy as a named driver-will bring it down alot!
