New drivers and new cars don't mix at all (it's not an opinion but a fact).

If then you throw in the pot a TPFT you are going to risk quite a lot, but I admire the courage and it is a welcome change from the billion sheep who ALL must get a more expensive car than they can manage so then must get finance and ALL must get fully comp and ALL moan that they can't afford it and HALF get it repossessed.

I think that that's way more stupid than getting TPFT on your partner's new car.

I don't care if you don't want people to tell you to do the online quote thing, it is really the best way to go. I bought a new car 2 weeks ago and wanted to get full coverage. I filled out one of those online qoute sites with my driving record, car info and what kind of coverage I wanted and over the next 24 hours I got about 20 email quotes and 15 phone calls qoutes from insurance agents. You name it, Geico, Allstate, Statefarm, Nationwide, Progressive all contacted me. And let me tell you the quotes varied widely from the highest being $900 for six months to the lowest being $450 for six months. I went with a local agent that was with a major company for $475 for six months. If you pay all at once like the whole year or whole six months its cheaper they give you a discount then paying month to month.
And watch out for some of the quotes, some try to low ball you and give you a cheap number but then when it comes time to make the payment and sign paperwork all of a sudden the quote is higher. I had a couple companies try to do this, I told them hell know no need to stick to the original amount quoted. I finally went the local independant agent because he stuck with his original quote and did not try to up it or add fees to it.

Do your home work like I said I talked to 20-30 different agencies over a 2 day period, yes a lot of time and effort but you will save $$$ in the long run. Many people throw away so much money on insurance because they are lazy and don't do their homework and compare.
