car insurance...?We Answered:
Collision - covers damage to your vehicle resulting from you a collision with a vehicle or an object subject to a deductible. This deductible is the amount you pay with insurance paying the remainder of the damage repair costs. The higher the deductible the less you pay monthly.Comprehensive - covers damage to your vehicle from a sudden loss OTHER than collision. For example, hail, flood, theft, vandalism, among others. Subject to a deductible (same concept as collision)
Bodily Injury - covers the medical expenses of the OTHER person if you are involved in an accident where you are at fault. (some states this is called PIP) and covers you instead of the other person.
Uninsured/Underinsured Bodily Injury - covers your medical expenses if you are hit by someone else (they are at fault) but either have no insurance or do not have enough insurance to fully cover your medical expenses.
Medical Payments - covers your (and anyone in your vehicle) medical expenses.
Property Damage - covers damage you cause to another vehicle or someone's property (i.e. a building)
For everything except Comp and Collision, the higher your limit the more you pay. You can normally play with these coverages to tailor them to you, but generally speaking I would recommend not getting less coverage than 100K/300K bodily injury (the first number is per person and the second number is per accident) and $25K limit for Property Damage.
I would also get at least 50K/100K Un/Underinsured to cover you in case you are hit by someone without insurance.
For Comprehensive and Collision I would set your deductible to what you could conceivably pay in the event of an accident that also lets your monthly payment be manageable.
The best person to describe all of this and advise what you personally need is a local agent.
