as to the person above who said get in before insurance companies make it illegal, it always has been illegal. if you are noted as named when infact you are a main driver, your claim will not be paid and your insurance will not be valid. it is not worth the risk.

It is the premium worked on on the costs of insuring males in the 17 to 24 age group who tend to have very expensive accidents.

I had a problem with a low estimate and I called a few salesmen to see if they had a car like mine on the lot and if they did, how much was it worth. Essentially, you are supposed to get paid for how much you car was worth minus the deductible.
Do as much printable/provable research you can and bring the paperwork to the claims adjuster. I managed to get enough to buy a car very close to the one I had to replace it. Do not tell them how much you bought it for if you can help it.
All this should cost you is ink, time, and paper. If you get anywhere close to what you want, take it. And if you have to, take a friend or parent to show you are serious.
