The best company for one person may be the worst for another. Keep searching but instead of getting on line quotes ring a few local companies with a local office staffed by insurance professionals. Remember too; The cheapest insurance is not always the best insurance.

Admiral and Elephant (they have the same parent company) like young drivers, also as already mentioned Norwich Union. Beware the accelerator policies where your year is ten months long instead of twelve as many other companies don't accept the no claims bonus that you accrue while on this policy.

Also try Endsleigh as they like students so I imagine young drivers fit into that.

As has already been pointed out, make sure you have a small car with a small engine (1.4 or less I think - it gets you the cheaper tax) and put an experienced driver on as a named driver. However at 17 you can still expect to pay a stupid amount of money per year. My first year at age 20 was over £500.
