Automobile Insurance Quote

Help with automobile insurance?

We Answered:

Depends on the state.
But it's going to be high to get insurance on your own. You might be able to have your parents on your insurance to bring down the price a bit. Being young is a risk factor in insurance, and you'll be qualified as a youthful driver either until you're married or you're 25 (depending on the state), when rates will go down. There are things that you can do to bring things down. First of all, drive a safe vehicle, and probably an older one. If you have an older car and just want liability insurance on it (you cover other people if you get in an accident) without the additional comprehensive (hit a deer, parked car gets hit, etc) and collision (accidents), you'll save money, because comp & collision is expensive. If you have to have comp & collision (newer car, car is worth fixing if in accident, have a loan on the vehicle), you can put a higher deductible (the amount you would pay if your car is in an accident) to lower the cost of the premium. And then there are discounts. Because you have no tickets on your record, you can most likely qualify for some type of safe driver discount. Once you're going to school, you can get a good driver discount (usually you need a GPA of 3.0 or higher for this), and some companies might give you a defensive driver discount if you take additional driving courses. Make sure to ask any agent who is giving you a quote about discounts, and get quotes from a few different places (keep the quotes and details they give you) so you can shop around. Have the agents explain all of the different coverages and what everything on the policy means.
For a sedan, you might be looking at $100 a month because you're so young. For a motorcycle, you might not be able to get coverage without already having an auto policy in the household (this can be helped by being in your parents' household on insurance), but if you can get motorcycle insurance, it is noticably cheaper than a car to insure, I usually see yearly premiums under $200. Motorcycle insurance is really different compared to auto, though.

Hope I helped. :)

21st century automobile insurance. Any feedback???

We Answered:

I have used Geico and 21st C for the last 20 years (mostly Geico). I switched to 21st C for the same reason, they offered a better rate. They have a very good rating on claims payments (as does Geico). We had an accident on our policy with 21st C and (of course) the rates went up. Geico had slightly lower rates for the same coverage at that time so we switched back. I suggest going with the lower rates and shop again every year or so just to make sure you're getting a decent deal. You can go to Consumers Reports and get a comparative list on claims complaints, etc of all the major insurance companies. Last time I checked, Geico was near the top and 21st C not far below.

Automobile insurance sites?

We Answered:

So far there isn't any sites that don't ask for personal information. They claim that it will help "lower" the quote if you give it all. Even when you call the companies, they ask for personal information. Allstate even asked for my ssn when i called claiming that it does some sort of bg check.
