Liability coverage =required by law in most states, pays for damages/injuries if at fault

Collision coverage =required if you have a loan on auto; pays for damages to YOUR auto minus a deductible

Comprehensive; =same as collision;

Medical payments and or PIP; pays for injuries to driver and all passengers if injured, regardless of fault

Rental coverage; pays for rental car for YOU if car in body shop or undrivable from accident

Uninsured bodily injury; pays if NOT AT FAULT, but other driver has no insurance; ie; hit/run

Under-insured bodily injury; same as above with exception, other driver has insurance, but not enough; ie; has $10k coverage, but injuries are $20K; his insurance pays $10K and your coverage picks up the remaining $10K.

Make sure that each coverage you choose has the same limits to compare.

ie; $25K liability will cost more than $10K liability.

They don't understand the Constitution. It belabors the obvious why comparing the "individual mandate" to compulsory auto insurance under state laws is specious. First, unlike the individual states, the federal government does not have a plenary police power to enact laws solely for public health and safety; thus, the comparison is legally impracticable. And second, states variously compel auto insurance only for citizens who seek driver's licenses and/or who drive on public roadways. That is, insurance is a condition precedent to being granted a privilege. Thus, the comparison is theoretically feeble as well

If you have a body you need to possess insurance for it.

If you don't have a body then you don't ever need it.
