What Is General Liability Insurance

Cindy Said:

as a contractor with general liability insurance what is the % that i can deduct from a hired subcontractor wi

We Answered:

You need to look at your insurance rating page, or call your agent. For general liability, you just increase his pay less materials to the same class code as your employee - an uninsured sub will be treated as an employee come audit time.

Same thing on workers comp - having a sub without a cert of ins. will mean they are considered your employee for workers comp purposes.

SO. If he's a roofer, you're looking at 15-20% of his cost less materials on GL, and 25% on the workers comp, but check with your agent to be sure.

General liability insurance advice?

We Answered:

Look, the agent's "mistake" isn't costing you any money. If he had put in the accurate number at first, you would have paid the $14,000 during the year, in addition to what you DID pay. All the "mistake" did, was change WHEN you had to pay the $14,000.

You have two ways of getting out of this: getting GL certs from your subs, and contesting the audit to remove the money you paid the subs from the exposure, or having your business file bankruptcy. That's it.

Interestingly enough, *I* am in Houston, and there's no shortage of work for painters, that I've seen.

what is the average cost for General Liability Insurance for a Security Guard Company in California.?

We Answered:

A billion dollar policy seems a bit much. The average policy for a California security company is 2 million. The premium a month for a 2 million dollar policy can be anywhere from $100+ it all depends on many factors such as how many guards you employ and if they are armed. A one guard company policy for one billion dollars would cost around $100,000.00 a year.

Sara Said:

What is the average cost of general liability insurance for someone that does light field work like surveying?

We Answered:

Well, it depends on a wide variety of factors. If you do no bridge work, nothing on boats or over water, it's going to START at $2500, including professional liability, for one surveyor.

But it wildly depends on the type of surveying you're doing.
