Types Of Liability Insurance

Johnnie Said:

Can you tell me some types of insurance which?

We Answered:

Public liability insurance - to cover injury to the public
Employers Liability insurance - to cover injury to employees
Material damge - to cover the damage to the zoo itself.
You may need professional indemnity insurance if you give advice e.g. on how to look after exotic creatures
There are bespoke policies on the market aimed at this sort of venture - these policies will probably include - treatment of animals, business interruption, goods in transit.

For your staff/yourself you would need personal accident and sickness cover, probably private medical cover, key-man cover (to cover extra expenses if someone dies).

The there is Directors and Officers Insurance to cover liability of directors e.g. if prosecuted under the new corporate manslaughter charges - which reminds me - you will also need legal expenses insurance as well.

Matthew Said:

What type of Insurance pays out first Medical Payment or Liability?

We Answered:

Well, it depends WILDLY on what type of policy you're talking about.

But let's assume auto.

Med pay is a FIRST PARTY coverage, you have to collect under your own policy. Any "no fault" state, will require you to collect under your med pay first.

Liability, regardless of policy type, is always a THIRD PARTY coverage. You "collect" under the other person's policy, assuming their insurer agrees that THEIR driver is liable for your damages. It can take a very, very long time, for the liability part of the claim to be settled - they're going to wait until you are as recovered as you possibly can get.

Ruby Said:

Is there some sort of insurance for Pit-Bulls?

We Answered:

Farmers Insurance does it the RIGHT way. They insure you based on bite history and not breed so we get our homeowners insurance through them, but the dachshunds across the street who have bit every child and dog in this neighbordhood canNOT get insured by them! With no bite history, they will insure you. When I was renting, I paid $150 a year for a $300,000 policy. It was great! Contact your local Farmers Insurance office and include a copy of the policy in your dog's portfolio.

Valerie Said:

Do bands usually provide their own liability insurance?

We Answered:

Professional bands have their own liability insurance. Amateur bands, well, it's not fair to ask YOU to buy THEIR liability coverage. You can buy a one shot, from a local independent agent. You can check with your homeowners or renters, to see if that would meet the contract needs. Or you can hire a different band.
