Small Business Product Liability Insurance

Seth Said:

State required liability / work comp Ins. loopholes covers NOTHING- who is liable?

We Answered:

The buyer that assumes coverage and does not verify the coverage purchased is adequate for the business and will provide the coverage the business needs is at fault.

It is only fraud if the insurance policy states that they will cover some event and then they do not. You have not shown that. It sounds to me like you bought a policy that provides specific coverages and thought the policy covered more or different losses. If you buy health insurance, it won't cover damage to your car in an accident.

Insurance for pet treat company?

We Answered:

You'll need to go to a local, independent agent, and have them shop it out. You won't get a standard insurance company to insure this.

Your product liability coverage will probably run around $1500 a year, to start.

Small retail business inventory question.?

We Answered:

You say you are in Ontario. I'm guessing that it's Ontario, Canada. BUT your question doesn't say it was asked in Canada. I don't know the laws of Canada,

I don't fully know the answer in the US, but maybe this will help you look in the right direction.
On the SchC (business profit & loss) one of the questions - amount withheld for personal use. I'm guessing that this is how you pay tax on this, but I don't know how it works exactly.

Q about retail insurance: there are 3 types of insurance that you may be involved with retail, liability, and product insurance.
Retail - you dont have a retail establishment, you don't need it
Liability - for sure people can sue you, that doesn't mean they will win
Product - if you hold an inventory, you would need this. This will protect you from damage to the product before it is shipped. I doubt your homeowners insurance would cover this.

Virginia Said:

anyone have any suggestions on where to sell furniture that i will make?

We Answered:

yeah a thrift shop or trading center would be best to get your name out there, maybe an expo? or a fair of some sort for people to get to know your product. Then eventually open your own business on your own retail shop. sounds like you will become popular if you make as quality of furniture you say you do.

ATTENTION small business LAWYERS-help please?

We Answered:

There isn 't a paper that your vendors could sign releasing you from responsibiliity - they can't sign something that binds a person who might be injured - that person could still sue both them AND you no matter what the vendor had signed.
