You can't buy business insurance directly, without an agent. Also, most companies are only interested in writing a particular type of business. You'd get one company for a drycleaner, for example, and a different company for a cleaning service, and still a third company, for a landscaper/lawnmower.

Business insurance for a new business, isn't going to be cheap. Most carriers want to see you've been in business at least three years, before they'll write a policy for you. At the same time, when you want "liability only", it's like going to a restaurant and ordering ala carte - much more expensive, than buying a 'package deal'. So if the point of "liability only" is to save money . . . it's probably not going to work.

Which is another reason, why you should be discussing this with your agent. Talk to the guy who writes your car/house insurance. That's the first place to check, for business insurance, before you start calling around to agencies in the yellow pages.
