well seeing as you have to keep records for 6 years. I would say they are very important, although as you have said, its very hard to put a value on it.

i suppose you could value the records based on the the profits of the business. ie if you make on average £20,000 profit a year. perhaps you could use this as an indication or at least the tax payable on the profits, based on how many years you are moving because if the Revenue investigate you, without business records its going to be very difficult for them to do anything and you will most likely be fined and pay more tax for whatever reason.
