Liability Insurance Land

Nelson Said:

do you need liability insurance on land in louisiana?

We Answered:

Many times if you have a homeowners policy located somewhere else it will cover the land. In that case check with your agent or the policy. If you do not have a homeowners policy and are planning to build on the land, you should get a builders risk policy. If you are not looking to build then check out an umbrella policy.

Caroline Said:

I own several parcels of vacant land in several states. My homeowners insurance used to cover liability.?

We Answered:

Your regular homeowners insurance policy will cover you for personal liability, any one making a claim that you personally have done something wrong and they usually require that the alleged incident occurred on the listed premises. The homeowners would not cover unrelated land, they generally cover the specific described premises on the declarations page. However, it is very difficult to make any blanket statements about what is covered due to the fact that some companies right their own policies and make changes from policies that are written by the insurance services orginization (iso).

Antonio Said:

What sort of insurance do I need to cover land / work liability?

We Answered:

Talk to your local insurance agent. He/she will be able to help you with regard to your local laws and requirements.

If you don't know who to start with, call up the agent you placed your auto / home insurance with.

Good Luck!

i need liability insurance on 1.59 acres of vacant land in castroville tx.?

We Answered:

Contact a local insurance agency. They can provide you with companies that will or can insure the property. Or any questions about putting some kind of coverage. Generally, its good to have some kind of insurance just in case something happens on the property.

Virigina - Insurance for land with an existing vacant home?

We Answered:

You need to insure the house, actually, and include liability coverage in that policy. The house represents the biggest liability risk. Talk to an insurance agent.

Sidney Said:

Is liability insurance required on vacant land?

We Answered:

No. However, if you have a standard homeowners policy, HO-3 form, it automatically extends to cover any vacant, unimproved land you own in the United States, as long as the land is owned in the same name, as the named insured on the policy.

Check with your agent if you don't have an HO-3 form, or if you don't believe me.

Rosa Said:

Why do you need liability insurance on land you do not use?

We Answered:

Liability insurance is not for you; it's to protect you against lawsuits or claims if someone else is on that property and is hurt.

Unfortunately, even if you post signs from one end of the property to the other saying "No Trespassing", if someone injures themselves on your property, you will likely be sued -- especially if the person is hurt because of a feature of the land, like uneven terrain, or deadwood, or any other possible natural part of your property.
