You have to pay it in full, because it's a seasonal business. And if you cancel it halfway, you don't get a refund - the guy you're working for will have to pay for your other six months - so it won't make him happy.

Your boss is trying to get out of paying workers comp and gl coverage for YOU, and he's trying to call you a subcontractor. Likely, unless you can hire someone else to show up and he doesn't mind, it's not going to work. Be sure to add that $2,000 in to the "job costs", and also, payroll taxes and employment taxes. If you do it this way, your costs will be MORE than $2,000, with all the self employment taxes.
