You have to go to an independent agent, who can put this out on the surplus market. I disagree with the guy that says find the largest agency - they're the ones most likely to say this isn't worth their time, and refuse to bother to quote you.

The direct writers - State Farm, Allstate, Nationwide, etc, are NOT going to be interested in this. An independent will find a company for you.

It's not going to be cheap. Plan on this coverage STARTING at $5,000, maybe more. And you'll have to give them a TON of detailed information, so it's probably going to take a couple weeks to get a quote.

You better do some checking in the area BEFORE you buy the boat. If you are planning on keeping it at a Marina - some Marinas won't even take them that old.
Also, be sure you take it on an "on the water" test run, before you buy it as well. And I would take a mechanic along with me, so he can check it out when it has a load on it.
I never knew an Insurance Company to require a survey when all you are insuring is the other fellow (by the way - Thank you for that! lol )
You should not have any trouble getting liability insurance. If you own a home - my homeowners police is the first place I would look - they are usually the cheapest.

OK, it doens't matter much WHAT legal ownership structure you have.

What matters, is what's covered. For a startup, it's probably going to run $1,000 WITHOUT trademark/infringement coverage, and WITHOUT coverage for artwork, assuming your equipment runs under $10,000.
