This amount is normally controlled by your State's Department of Transportation.

In Texas, the Texas DOT requires a MINIMUM limit of liability of $500,000 Combined Single Limit liability for ANY vehicle that has a GCVW (Gross Combined Vehicle Weight) GREATER than 26,001 pounds. This will include MOST dump trucks unless they are small single axle 3-5 yard box trucks.

To cross State lines, USDOT gets involved and you normally have to carry a MINIMUM limit of $750,000 Combined Single Limit for non-hazmat materials.

This is PUBLIC LIABILITY only and basically only protects you while driving down the road - and are MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS ONLY. You might want to consider HIGHER limits as the cost is really negligible for increased protection.

If the company is involved in other operations, they should also carry a commercial general liabilty policy for any operational hazard protection - dumping, grading of land, septic tank installation, etc.

You just need to contact a LOCAL independent insurance agent. Look in your local phone book for the PIA or Big I (Trusted Choice) logo and you should be able to find a professional agent there that can help you with your insurance needs. Just be sure to ask if they have someone there that "specializes" in dump trucks.
