General Commercial Liability

Jose Said:

What is the difference between Workers Comp and General Liability insurance?

We Answered:

They are wildly different, and GL excludes workers comp exposures, while WC excludes GL exposures.

GL covers you, if someone else sues you, for something you did, that caused them damages. WC covers your employees, on a "no fault" basis, for injuries they get in the course of their employment - it pays medical bills and lost wages.

You will have to ask your GL carrier if they'll give you a comp policy. It's based on payroll and class code, and if you're the only employee, the payroll will be either your actual payroll, or a minimum which varies by state and class code. Depending on what you're doing, the absolute minimum cost for a workers comp policy is probably going to be at LEAST $750. But if you do janitorial, it's going to START at around $1700. Roofing, $2500 or even more.

Virgil Said:

homeowners liability coverage is similar to which liability coverage?

We Answered:

Ask your agent for sample policy forms, and read them all.

There isn't much similar between the forms, they're all designed for completely different things. Except there are some overlaps with the CGL and BOP forms, and the PAP and BAP forms.

Marsha Said:

General Liability in Missouri?

We Answered:

You should try United Fire and Casualty Insurance co., along with EMC, Allied, also Auto Owners. Thats who the company that I work at part time goes through here in Des Moines. Crazy that you're asking about commercial lines not many people will. Try them and hop you have good luck. If not get back to me and let me know, Ill try to find other companies for you if they wont work.

Commercial general liability coverage moving?

We Answered:

B. is most correct, although D is also sort of right.

See, CGL policies are AUDITABLE, so after the policy is over, the actual exposures are recalculated, and the insured charged, accordingly.

Jeff Said:

will an insurance company deliberately deny your claim (commercial general liability)?

We Answered:

That's about the normal time for an examination under oath.

Regarding a LIABILITY claim, the insurance company NEVER has to accept or pay a liability claim, for a third party claim, until AFTER a judge says they have to.

So, if you are the insured person, and they think there's fraud involved, it can void your (defense) coverage. If you are the claimant, you DO need to hire a lawyer, and file the lawsuit. They aren't going to make an offer, on a questionable claim, if you have inconsistancies, or other issues that throw your credibility in bad light, without a lawsuit.
