I do not agree with your unacceptable part! If President Obama was really concerned about health care reform, he would have talked about Tort Reform!! But then he would have alienated almost every Democratic Lawmaker, since they are MOSTLY lawyers. Instead of choosing a REAL debate on health care, he chose politics instead of integrity! He is not leadership skills that we need for this type of debate. So, your argument is based on half--truths... Medicare & Medicaid are destroying Gov't finances. Universal health care was tried in Hawaii (I believe for children) and failed because it cost too much. Why did not Gibbs bring this up during one of his press conferences. If people need free health care, they can always join the military!! But, in order to have this debate, we need more information and not so many special interest groups like the lawyers that Obama happens to be one!!

The answer from Deb M below makes no sense. If she doesn't want to support the CEO's of a particular company, then she has the option of not buying from that company or using their services. The public option forces me, via confiscatory taxes, to support her health care. Personally, I don't care if she lives or dies, her health care is not my responsibility. Relying on others to take care of ones existence is nothing more than parasitism, just like leeches and ticks.

You hit the nail on the head. We started on the slippery slope toward socialism when the government got involved in a national retirement system (the great pyramid scheme known as Social Security), medicare, the prescription drug program and now, medicine. I'm an older guy and I am against taking more of the individual's labor value and giving it to people who didn't earn it. I don't expect anyone to look out for me but me. I'd give up my Social Security benefits tomorrow if they want to scrap the program. I don't want to see future generations strapped with the debt load that our government (Democrats and Republicans, take you pick of which scum you prefer) is deferring for the sake of staying in power.

I do not understand the American people. They are so frightened that someone might get something for free. I don't know anyone here in Britain that would say ''don't treat that stranger out of my taxes''. It's just so different here, people don't care if you don't know them, they still want you to be helped. From their taxes if need be.
For all the Americans that read this, the British complain about the NHS. The british complain about everything. The NHS is magnificent. It is open to abuse, but it is there for everyone.There are waiting lists for non emergency operations here but for big stuff you're in straight away. American for profit hospitals will not do a test on you if they can help it, it costs them money, money that could be profit. Just the whole health care for profit thing...it's sick. Healthcare is not a luxury. Healthcare is life.
I'm so glad to be back in the UK, and I do all I can to tell my fellow Brits how lucky they are. For all the anti communist idiots: first of all, watch Sicko, by micheal moore, it will help you to understand the propoganda of your corrupt system that has brainwashed you into using ridiculous words like ''communist'' when refferring to capitalist free market nations. Secondly, look at true, would be ''communist'' , Egalitarian countries like Norway, where there is very low income disparity, redistibution of wealth and the health system even pays for vacations for people in winter. Note the low crime rate, high quality of life , healthcare and education in those countries.
Thirdly, consider that all capitalist economies need a little room. I'm not saying the NHS is perfect, far from it. There are far more efficent, effective health systems throughout the world (remember america is the only developed country with no universal healthcare). Socialism with no capitalism leads to tyranny, as history has shown us. But Capitalism with no socialism is barbaric. I hope Obama can make the difference.
