Commercial Umbrella Insurance

Samuel Said:

Can my husband's employer require us to name them on our auto insurance?

We Answered:

Look at it this way, if your hubby kills someone accidently, and is sued, the person named as the insured, and any other names are liable for liability, they are adding that they accept that they will also be sued in such a case, to me, thats a protection.
Call your own insurer, and ask how much to upgrade the insurance. Discuss what has, and is now going on, and ask a pro, whether this is a job he may want to replace with another one, when hes able.
The problem is if your now going to purchase a car, and use for work, first off its value drops 4000 or so after it leaves the lot, before hes put 1 mile on it. IF he totals it out, the pay off might not be enough to get a new car, so its alot to discuss with your ins carrier, and if your with a online compnay, call a real insurer, pretend this is a new situation, as if he just got the job and ask all this info and get some information to help you out. Then compare what the 2 companies have told you.
By law you must get a commercial policy if
paid milage or / and carry company products / have company signage, and its primary use, is for driving all day working, not just to and from work. The company will be reimbursting for some/all of this, so find out whats up with the entire deal to decide whether its a good deal or not.

Umbrella insurance???

We Answered:

You will need a commercial policy for both liability and property. The umbrella policy requires that you have an underlying policy in place first, then the umbrella kicks in for liability above your underlying policy. The umbrella from your current homeowners insurance will not cover anything for the business.

You'll want to visit a local independent agent that deals with commercial policies. The agent will know what types of policies you will need for the business. They can shop the market for you to find a policy that's best for your situation.
