First, the insurance company is required BY LAW to contact your DMV if your coverage lapses. The DMV will immediately contact you for proof of current coverage. Failure to do so will lose your registration, a healthy fine for unregistered/uninsured commercial vehicle and if they want they can even take your CDL.

Your rates seems high to me if you are referring to your Bobtail insurance. I'd do some shopping around. I use 1st Guard. You might want to Google them and get a quote.

Like any other insurance, it is based on your home location. (even though you don't get home very often!!) Mine is 1/3 yours on my 05 Star, but I live in Nevada, which has fairly low insurance rates, I've been OTR for better than 20 years with 0 tickets/accidents and my deductible may be higher.
