Commercial And General Insurance

Elmer Said:

Commercial Insurance for Steel Erection Companies?

We Answered:

Well, there aren't a lot. Have you tried the big agencies?? Marsh, USI, etc? Or you can find a local agent that represents Travelers or Zurich - both of them have dedicated construction departments. Have five years currently valued loss runs for all lines available. If your loss ratio is over 75%, you're going to be really hard to place, and Travelers & Zurich will likely shoot you down.

Marsh has a $75,000 minimum premium, USI $50,000, Travelers & Zurich $100,000 excluding comp. But if you're that big, and that long term, it's probably not going to be an issue with you.

Aren't "The General" car insurance commercials annoying?

We Answered:

YES. And horrible animation.

Bill Said:

How do you calculate insurance payments? I am starting a business and would like to know so I can calculate it

We Answered:

The easiest way of doing this would be to call a few insurance providers and ask them for quotes.

Your premium is going to depend on the type of business you're doing and type of coverage you want. It's also going to be highly sensitive to location. Get in touch with local brokers and shop around.

Insurance Professionals Only: Should I take the AU (Associate in Commercial Underwriting) before or after?

We Answered:

I also obtained my INS and AIC (Associate in Claims) years ago. I had previously worked for a big insurance company that was very proactive on taking insurance classes, to the degree that they stated was the only way to move up. While taking these classes, I was also going to school at night while working full time for them to get my para legal degree.

The CPCU is very intense and can be difficult to pass. Since your current objective would be to go into underwriting, it would make more sense to go after the AU 1st since only 2 classes and will help you understand your job more effectively. Then after that, go for the CPCU.

Also if you were to change jobs thu your choice or due to the economy get laid off, it will look good to list all the degrees you have gotten to your resume that you have accomplished. Even if you complete the others and only have certain parts of the CPCU passes, can list those also.

good luck
