Business Medical Insurance

Cathy Said:

How do you bill medical insurance for a caregiving business?

We Answered:

You must contact the insurance company your guest would be using - each company has exacting standards on what is covered and what is not. They will supply you with a packet and instruction on how to bill as well as requirements for your facility. If you have a personal agent he/she may be able to help you contact a "providers" agent. Good Luck!

What is the best kind of insurance to cover a medical service business?

We Answered:

You need an umbrella insurance policy as well as others that are mandated to medical practices. Contact a local insurance company and your state to find out all requirements.

Kirk Said:

How do you think health care reform will impact the medical insurance you receive at your place of business?

We Answered:

Well, I just received notice that as of Jan. 1, 2010, my husband's group plan will be increasing in premium due to the fact our group carrier must include children until the age of 26 (we included children up to age 25 before). It was also pointed out the increase includes the fact there is no longer a cap on the lifetime benefits which will require the insurer to incur higher costs.

I was also notified that the coverage I provide for my employees will increas dramatically, effct. Jan. 1st, due to the same reasons.

The policies above are group plans.

The individual policies I can offer my clients have also increased in premium like I have never seen before. I can't even imagine what the premiums will be by 2014.

If this trend continues, I will no longer be able to offer my employees group benefits and I don't have to because I have less than 10 employees. I have already seen my customers increasing their deductibles effective Jan. 1st. A few have cancelled their policies siting inability to pay.

I have no doubt many Americans will be seeking the only plans they will be able to afford, government plans. I also believe this was the full intention of the current administration.

**I have also worked directly in the health insurance arena and I know how hard they try TO pay claims. I'm not sure who the poster before me worked for, but it must have been an awful company. They are not all like that. The few that are give the rest a bad reputation.

Billie Said:

When an insurance company goes out of business, what happens to the medical records?

We Answered:

They go away, or get transfered to the newly assigned servicing carrier.

But don't think another insurance company won't know they are there, because copies of all those records were already sent to the Medical Information Bureau (MIB).

Carlos Said:

I want to open my own business but I'm concern of medical insurance?

We Answered:

Unless you are positive that your business is going to prosper, especially the way the economy is today, you should heed the advice of your friends and family.
If you are bored with the work that you are doing at your job, look into transferring to another position. Nine years seems like a long time, and it is, but you don't want to throw away the first 19 years because of a dream. You've been on your job much to long to let it go so think long and hard about any decision to quit right now.

Luis Said:

Do we have to incorporate our small business to offer medical insurance?

We Answered:

Not true.

A local agent will know the rules - in most states, two people working there, the employer has to pay at least 50% of the cost, AND, the plan will be individually underwritten, based on the health and age of the two employees. You have to actually be ON THE PAYROLL to be listed as an employee.

At least 50% of the employees must be on the plan.

The insurance company is NOT required to give you a policy - so if your health is so bad you can't get a private policy, you won't be able to find someone to give you a group policy, either.

Go talk to a local agent. Find one at www.iiaa.org
