Business Insurance Vehicle

Adrian Said:

Used vehicle business question!?

We Answered:

You need to rethink this business.

Probably not a good idea.

In any event, you probably need a place of business, in a location zoned for business, a dealers license, surety bond and garage liability insurance.

The liability insurance alone runs $2500-3000 per year.

Its unlikely you would generate enough commissions to pay your expenses.

Stella Said:

I am in the process of starting a vehicle hire business?

We Answered:

Most motor insurance companies will also offer business motor insurance. They cover taxi drivers, self-employed delivery drivers, mobile valets, etc. Many will be one vehicle companies.

Contact any of the major insurance companies and explain your requirements. They should be able to help.

Dean Said:

Can my small business purchase a vehicle and have the business make all the payments and insurance.?

We Answered:

Yes, your business can purchase anything it needs to operate. The cost of the vehicle then becomes a capital expenediture, and hence can be depreciated. The operating costs are a normal business expense, so they come off the bottom line too. In the end, you get a vehicle which is paid with "before tax" money, rather than "after tax" money. That reduces your overall tax bill.

Go for it.

Christina Said:

As a sole proprietor of a lawn mowing business, should I keep actual vehicle expenses on or off the books?

Can I Drive A Vehicle On Fleet insurance?

We Answered:

Generally speaking any employee of a company can drive a company vehicle and be covered by the fleet insurance IF the employee has a license suited to the class of vehicle being driven, and if the insurance company has added the employee as a secondary driver on the policy.

Most businesses will not allow an employee with a less than stellar driving record to be added to their employment roster if the job involves driving.

Let's say you're a limo company, with a fleet of cars. Are you going to hire the person with 5 speeding tickets and 3 accidents to drive for you? Or perhaps with a suspended license?

So, back to the question, the answer is "maybe".
