I think it would depend on how you are obtaining insurance for your own business.
If you are going to have employees, then you may not have a problem getting insurance, as it would be a group plan. I don't know how many people have to be employed by the business, that is something you will have to check into.

If you are not going to have employees, and want to get individual insurance, then you are right, you would be in a high risk pool and it would cost you a bundle.

But for a one man painting operation, residential only, less than three stories, interior and exterior, you're looking at about $1200 a year for $500,000 of coverage.
